Making mistakes in life
Making mistakes in life is normal and it’s how we learn. Mistakes are a part of life but no one likes doing it. If only we could get it right the first time. Here’s my mistake.
Making mistakes in life
From the time we were babies, we have made mistakes. It truly is how we learn. No one goes into anything knowing exactly how to do things. Sure, we might have been taught how to do something but it’s nothing like actually doing. And what if it’s something no one taught us how to do? In that case, we’re going to make mistakes until we figure it out.
Teachers
Teachers are all around us, especially when we’re young. There are the teachers at school and then there are our parents. Friends and other family members act as teachers. When we’re children, we rely on adults to teach us things. We watch and learn and then mimic (or at least try to mimic). By someone correcting us, we learn the right way to do something.
When teachers are patient with us, we learn better because we feel comfortable that they have our best interests in mind. They want us to excel. Plus, when we’re kids, we’re absorbing everything. Of course, life won’t always give us the opportunity to have teachers around us and we need to figure it out for ourselves. Making mistakes in life are inevitable when this happens.

Learning on our own
Mistakes are a part of life. There are going to be situations where we have to learn on our own. As we get older, we venture out on our own and as part of that, there won’t be someone to ask or show us how things are done. We definitely will have to learn by failing! Not fun but it does help us to figure things out. We get to use our brains to try to figure out a different solution.

Here’s one mistake that changed my life…
My mistake
Many years ago when I was trying to deal with my skin issues, I started experimented. I was frustrated with products that I had purchased commercially that caused me to break out more or that caused more sensitivity. It was a vicious cycle that was extremely aggravating to me.

I borrowed books from the library so I could learn everything I could about skin. I realized that a big part of skin care was exfoliating, especially when you’re dealing with acne since those dead skin cells get clogged in pores. When I thought I knew what to do, I got to work.
I knew I wanted to use something gentle so I started with powdered oats and I knew I wanted to use something that contained vitamin E so I ground up some almonds into a very fine, soft powder. After I mixed these together, I used it to exfoliate my face. I did my whole face and boy, was it messy – I got everything all over the bathroom sink!
I walked away thinking Epic Fail – making mistakes in life! But, about a half hour later, my skin felt great! Looking in the mirror, my skin looked amazing! Problem was that it was too messy. I don’t want to have to clean up a mess every time I wanted to exfoliate my face! Back to the drawing board!

How could I make an exfoliator that included those ingredients that made my skin feel and look really good without making a mess? Obviously, the loose form wasn’t going to cut it and I never liked the gel or liquid types of products. To me, they were wasteful because half of the product went down the drain. The other reason I didn’t like that idea was because it wasn’t eco-friendly. I would need a plastic bottle which wasn’t good for the environment. I needed something that was:
- Anti-waste or wasteless
- Natural coloring
- Concentrated
What I came up with was the scrub bar in a concentrated bar form. Concentrated so that it was effective, yet still gentle. I never meant to start a business. I was merely trying to figure out how to make my acne go away. Not only did I get the above qualities I wanted, I also got:
- Something hand-crafted
- Small batch so I could focus on the product and the customer
- Low waste – very limited packaging – no bottles to throw away!
