Nutrition and skin health
No doubt you are aware of how Nutrition and skin health are related. In fact, there are certain foods that can help improve the health of your skin.
Nutrition and skin health
What does nutrition have to do with skin health? Skin health doesn’t just happen by what you are putting on your skin. You may be using the latest and greatest retinol’s, Vitamin C’s or the like, but you need much more than that to maintain your healthy skin. Don’t get me wrong, what you are putting on your skin is very important. We need to make sure that the ingredients in our skin care products are good for us and therefore, not toxic. This means we need to scrutinize the skin care ingredients in our sunscreen, make-up and even our make-up remover.

Nutrition and skin health is so intertwined. It’s common knowledge now that nutrition plays a major role in skin health. Nutrition for skin is important and there are many factors affecting skin integrity. Nutrition is a major one and this is why you should be concerned about nutrition and skin health.

The following are some nutrients for skin health for you to follow to uncover your beautiful skin.
Go green!
Green vegetables may not be high on your list but there are many skin benefits to eating / drinking your greens. In fact, it can help you more than you know. The vitamins and minerals your body takes in from green vegetables helps with digestion and radiant skin.
Plus, if you suffer from bloating at any time during your cycle, you’ll see huge gains in drinking celery juice. In fact, our lymph nodes can become inflamed from toxic substances in our body – such as endocrine disruptors. Intaking greens helps to eliminate these toxins, improving your health and your skin!
So, grab your produce bags (re-usable, of course) and head to the grocery store or your local farmers markets. You know I’m a big fan of celery juice for these reasons:
- reducing inflammation
- removing toxins in your body
- clearer skin
- maintaining a good body weight (even helping with weight loss)
- loads of vitamins and minerals like Vitamin’s A and C and potassium.
Nutrients for skin health
These vitamins are a powerhouse when it comes to skin care:
- Vitamin C – Spinach and broccoli are my favorites. But you can also find this in citrus fruits like lemons.
- Vitamin D – this one is great at controlling oil – meaning less acne. Find it in eggs and just a little sun exposure.
- Vitamin E – if you have free radical damage, make sure you get enough of this vitamin. Plus, if you have wrinkles, you’ll need this for your dry skin and to help with increased collagen. My favorite Vitamin E food is almonds but you can also find this in avocados and sunflower seeds.
- Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) – when you don’t have enough of this vitamin, you are more prone to acne. Yes, it’s true. So, eat your greens and your almonds!
- Vitamin K – Kale and spinach can help with skin scars or those dark, puffy circles you may have. If you don’t like kale, put it in a salad with an acidic dressing to help soften it. It also helps the bitterness. It’s worth a try.
- Zinc – great for its antioxidants which can help acne. Spinach and almonds are great sources.
Nutrition and skin health is essential! You’ll notice very quickly how eating the right foods, like greens, can really help your skin and your health overall.
