Why shouldn’t you eat cherries

Why shouldn’t you eat cherries even though they’re full of nutrients?  It’s one of the healthiest foods you can eat so why am I tell you not to eat them?

Cherry health benefits

First, let’s go over the health benefits of these tasty fruits before we go into why you shouldn’t eat cherries.

  1. There are so many nutrients in cherries including 3 grams of fiber in just one cup, a ton of vitamin C which is great for skin / collagen production and potassium, plus copper and manganese.
  2. Cherries are filled with antioxidants and we all know we need these because free radicals are so bad, especially if you’re concerned about premature aging.
  3. Do you suffer from arthritis?  As we get older, we start seeing more and more arthritis in our joints.  Since cherries have an anti-inflammatory effect, they may help arthritis symptoms.
  4. Better sleep – because cherries contain melatonin, it can help with your sleep cycle meaning you get better sleep.
  5. They also help us after a hard work out.  If you have any aches after exercise, cherries can actually help.  In addition, you may actually exercise better if you’ve eat cherries or even drank tart cherry juice.

I’ll tell you exactly why.  Cherries fall on the Environmental Working Group’s list at #8 of 12 on the Dirty Dozen list of fruits and vegetables that are loaded with pesticide residue.  Just take a look for yourself and you’ll see why you shouldn’t eat them.

Therefore, if you buy the non-organic varieties, you’ll be eating pesticides.  One of the pesticides they found on a cherry sampling is actually prohibited in Europe.  It’s allowed here in the States, though so you’ll be eating this pesticide.  I’m not sure you want to do this because the toxicity you will receive is not worth it.  It’s better to eat organic cherries and drink organic cherry juice.

Reasons to eat organic cherries

Like I said above, cherries do have a lot of nutrients that provide a lot of health benefits.  So, eating organic cherries is suggested for the following skin and health benefits, especially if you’re over 40:

  1. As we age, free radicals are not making things any easier on how we look.  The antioxidant properties of cherries will help fight this.  Vitamin E helps with this.
  2. Since cherries are packed with Vitamin C, it can help the look of fine lines and wrinkles.  Plus, vitamin C helps with collagen production so it can keep your skin firmer and elastic.
  3. The Vitamin A in cherries helps keep your skin moisturized.  Plus, if you have acne at any age, you might get even more dramatic results when you start eating organic cherries that’s because cherries help with controlling excessive oil production.
  4. Another reason for keeping your skin hydrated is all the potassium in cherries.
  5. I mentioned earlier that cherries can help you sleep better.  With the melatonin in cherries, you may no longer have insomnia which means your face will look better because you won’t look tired all the time.  And, for those dark circles under your eyes?  Those will be gone!  There’s also vitamin K in cherries, which also helps those circles!  Eliminate puffy eyes by eating cherries – organic, that is!

So, I hope this answers your questions why you shouldn’t eat cherries.  Cherries are a wonderful fruit and they are really good for you, as long as you eat the organic kind.

I love cherries but they can be expensive.  Couple that with buying organic and it can really hurt your wallet.  But, if you wait for the organic cherries to go on sale, it won’t be so bad.  If they are still too expensive for you, you may want to not buy them.  I understand this.  Consider organic tart cherry juice instead, which can make your dollar go further.

Other foods you shouldn’t eat are non-organic strawberries., Tomatoes, Corn, peppers and peaches.
